7th April 2019 - Chatterbox stunned by large Donation
Chatterbox, the Norwich Talking Newspaper, has just received a £2,500 donation from Barton House Railway. Chatterbox was the Wroxham-based Railway’s charity of the year in 2018. Representatives of the talking newspaper team attended every regular train running day at Barton House Railway in 2018 and talked with visitors who had come to enjoy the various activities there.
Mike Blythe, a member of the Chatterbox committee, said “We are stunned and delighted by the generosity of Barton House Railway and very grateful to them for this support.” Frances Pearce, another committee member and long serving volunteer at Chatterbox said “2018 has been a remarkable year for Chatterbox. We produced our 2000th weekly edition of the talking newspaper, we celebrated our 40th anniversary and we won the Norfolk and Waveney Stars Team of the Year Award. Now we have received this £2,500 donation from Barton House Railway. This is really amazing.”
In 2019 Barton House Railway will have running days on Easter Monday and then on the third Sunday of every month. There will also be a special evening session on Saturday 21st September and a Santa Special on the third Sunday in December. Their charity of the year for 2019 is Sunbeams Play, a charity to support children and young people with autism.
Chatterbox always welcomes new blind or visually impaired listeners, who are provided with a free USB memory stick player and receive all Chatterbox recordings every week, free of charge. Anyone interested can contact Chatterbox at contact@cbtn.org.uk or leave a message on their Answerphone: 01603 765365
For Editors
Chatterbox’s 95 volunteers put together a recording of highlights from the Norwich Evening News every week and have now produced over 2040 editions. They also record EDP Norfolk and Let’s Talk every month, and produce their own Chataround magazine programme which is also distributed by several other Talking Newspapers and broadcast by Future Radio and on N&N Hospital radio. Chatterbox recordings go to about 500 blind and visually impaired listeners, mainly in the Norwich area.
The visually impaired on our mailing list listen to Chaterbox productions on USB sticks.
